Journal entry by Becca Laughlin —
Wahoo! Sarah came through the surgery - a complete hysterectomy - with flying colors. I don't think she exactly FEELS that way, but she did. She's resting and on some painkillers so we will see what the night and tomorow bring. She was up at 4:30am after a long day Sunday "prepping" for surgery. She arrived at the hospital with an incredible attitude of gratitude for the opportunity that the ability to have the surgery presents which obviously was not an option in December when we found Bessie. Post surgery the doctor said "the surgery went very, very well." He said that he did not see any signs of a viable tumor (I think this means no signs of a tumor that is still growing because he removed what was left of the tumor, it just sounds like the tumor wasn't exactly "alive" any more). Her appendix appeared to have been involved so it was given an eviction notice and was promptly removed as well. All in all, things have gone very well and we are all incredibly grateful. Thank you all for the support and prayers. And, on a personal note, a huge thank you to Sarah for fighting this so well - so many of us needed her to and she's really been a warrior.
She will be in the hospital until Wednesday or Thursday and the recovery will take several weeks due to the type of incision and the significant affect on her body. The Dr. said that in about 6 weeks she will resume chemo with 3 more rounds about 21 days apart possibly followed by Radiation.
Thank you again for your prayers and to all of you who reached out to us today.
