Journal entry by Sarah Drees —
I need to clarify something from yesterday. Everything I posted was very accurate but it is important to understand that Sarah is not out of the woods yet. Although she is doing extremely well, Dr. Larkin will not say she has won the battle. The reason being is that it is still very early after her transplant. Sarah's case is somewhat unusual and they have not seen a lot like her. When we ask about when we can say it is gone her answer is always "ask me in 2 years". She will say that she is disease-free as far as we know for now and she is doing extremely well but, and there is always a but. Many things can happen as far out as 2 to 3 years after a transplant which is why they will be monitoring her very closely. With that said, we truly believe that a miracle has occurred and Sarah has a long, healthy life in front of her. We understand why Dr. Larkin is being so cautious and we are very grateful for that. We know were it not for her and the team at The James, Sarah's story would be much different.
For now, we celebrate Sarah being disease-free. We believe this will continue because after all, a MIRACLE has occurred. Please keep your prayers coming.
Love to all,
Dana
