Sara’s Story

Site created on January 2, 2019

On Sunday, December 30th, Sara was on the way home from a family gathering at our aunt & uncle's home on Cty Rd O. She was driving on Crosstown road toward Shopko with her 3 kids, Reese, Madi & Raegan and Raegan's girlfriend Bai. When she got to the top of the hill, she lost control of the vehicle. It rolled, then hit a tree.  Another of our aunt and uncles  were ahead of them on the road and were the first to respond.  The younger two in the back had been wearing their seatbelts and were cleared at the scene without injuries. The older two were jostled around and brought to Regions for attention. Bai has a cut on her ankle and a fractured wrist. Raegan was cleared with general bruising from the accident. Sara was a bit more seriously injured. Portions of the vehicle had to be removed to get her out, and she was flown to Regions where they found several broken bones, including 8 ribs, her pelvic bone, clavical and scapula. She was in the ICU until 1/1, when she was moved to her own room.  She's scheduled for surgery on Thursday, 1/3, after which we hope the healing can accelerate.  She's extremely uncomfortable, experiencing a large amount of pain when coughing spells hit, and would prefer not to have visitors. She needs a lot of rest to allow her body to focus on its restoration efforts.  When she's ready for visitors, we'll communicate that out. Thanks to everyone who has reached out or seen the post and wished her and the kids well. Positive intentions, prayers and well wishes are always a great gift in times like these.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Shaunda Wiering --Hayes

Surgery yesterday was long and the immediate after phase quite a pain challenge, but Mom reported that all went well and this morning has brought with it additional movement and an appetite. All great signs that our Sara is on track for a speedy recovery. Please continue to hold off on visits until she gives the green light. Although she is a rockstar and has been powering through some incredible difficulties, she still has a long way to go. Thanks, All, for the continued thoughts, prayers and wishes.
