Journal entry by Sara Bennett

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about what’s going on with Sara! This month,  Sara has welcomed a new chapter in her story, one where she is joined by a caregiver, Kim.

Kim has become an essential part of her life each week, offering support as Sara navigates through her days with ALS. Her knowledge, experience, and compassion are a gift to the household!

This disease is a taker, and recently has taken Sara’s ability to feed herself. Sara’s resilience continues to be tested as she encounters further changes in her health. Notably, taking a full breath is a challenge and expressing herself vocally has become more difficult. These developments remind us of the swift nature of her illness, yet Sara continues to find joy in each day. She has had many visits from friends and family, and delights in her two boys!

Sara started the phase of her clinical trial where she is receiving the active drug. Her recent uterine ablation went off without a hitch.

The boys are eagerly anticipating the start of baseball season, with their dad as the coach of their team. They are looking forward to their birthdays in the spring, and are coordinating a fundraiser of their own with ALS TDI to raise money for research. These kids want a treatment for their mom and her friends!

As we share in Sara’s journey, let us all rekindle hope for the future, inspired by her strength and the collective support surrounding her.
