Newest Update

Journal entry by Ashley Schoenack

Hi Everyone,

Its been a crazy week here and al to of things were happening pretty fast so I didn't have a chance to update this as soon as I was hoping to.

The big thing that happened this week is that Sandy came home on Friday. She was released from HCMC and is not continuing her journey of healing at home. We got the news from Mike later in the day this past Wednesday and so we had a little more than a day to prepare. We met as a family on Thursday evening and had a really open conversation about all of our concerns and ask all of the questions we had. We will be meeting frequently as a family to talk about Sandy's progress at home and to make sure we all our communicating and staying on the same page.

Mike picked her up on Friday and the car trip went ok. She was a little nervous driving in the cities  but as time went on she relaxed a little. They had dinner and she spent her first evening at home with Justin & Jess. Joe & I were surprised & very excited to see her at church yesterday! It was so awesome to see her face! At first glance she definitely looked a little nervous and was shaky but we were able to hug her and the kids were excited to see her. We are having them over for supper tonight for my birthday as well. We are taking it day by day. She has the same questions as she has had in the past.. The main question always being I don't know what to do with myself. The times of day that are not filled with something to do cause a lot of anxiousness. That is something we as a family along with her counselor need to talk about and try to find a solution for.

So, that is where we are right now. I'm sure she would enjoy to see family & friends but I also know she has expressed she wouldn't know what to say. Maybe just reaching out with a text or sending her a card is a good place to start. Thank you all for your love, prayers & support. We need it all!
