Sandy’s Story

Site created on September 6, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. On September 9, 2021, she underwent the Whipple Procedure. The surgeon found that a cyst in her pancreas they had been monitoring for a long time had become cancerous. Over the last 2 1/2 years she has fought hard against this aggressive cancer. It metastasized to her lungs and she now has a PleurX catheter in the pleural space of each lung to control the fluid build up.

On February 14, 2024, Mom was placed on hospice care in her home. Davis and Jennifer are providing around the clock care.

This amazing lady is a warrior and we appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting and following her through this journey.

PS. CaringBridge asks for “tributes” but these are not necessary to follow her story. Those donations go directly to CaringBridge to support their services and does not go to Mom’s care. We just want your love and prayers!

Journal entry by Jen Baker

We celebrated mom in a beautiful celebration of life filled with her favorite verses, music hymns and flowers yesterday in the presence of so many people of love her and her people. Mark Wells (friend) and Dr. Gordon Turnbull (senior pastor) delivered beautiful messages that perfectly captured the incredible being she was.
Mom requested a colorful flower arrangement featuring her favorite flower, the Dutch Iris, and we are so grateful to Steve Wood for creating this breathtaking display. I envisioned her watching from the cross she and Greg contributed to the church many years ago in memory of his parents and her mom, our Grandnana. I wish I could have momentarily hopped up there for  big hug and to see the incredible congregation dressed in beautiful shades purple to show support for the fight against pancreatic cancer.

Following is a link to a poem that I have found comforting as a reminder that mom is always with us. https://allpoetry.com/poem/13601954-Death-Is-Nothing-At-All-by-Henry-Scott-Holland

Thank you to some of my precious friends (Jen, Sara, Erin and Jessie) who fed our bellies, hearts and souls this weekend to allow our family and friends to focus on the special celebrations.

Thank you all for sharing your love of our mom, your sister, daughter, cousin and friend.
