Sam is 24 today. It doesn’t seem possible that 24 years have passed since that beautiful day in March all those years ago.
Sam has brought so much joy into our lives, as have our other kids. While Jon, Drew, and Katie gave us measurable milestones and victories, Sam brought challenges to overcome and unique blessings to be discovered.
These past two months have brought just such challenges to the forefront again. As always, we’ve been blessed to have family, friends, and a plethora of new heroes to help us not just meet these challenges, but to rise above them and come out stronger.
Thursday Sam had her staples removed and Friday, her Mid-Line IV was taken out. Those were the final steps in setting Sam up for our new “norm” at home.
While we have new things added to our daily regimen, we have Sam here with us. She is whole and healthy and buzzing and smiling again. She’s our bug. What a blessing to have her.
I know there are too many people to thank for making her 24th birthday possible through prayer, medical expertise, love, and caring. There are also many angels who were looking over her and helping guide us through, not just to survival, but to a thriving life for Sam to continue to explore (a particularly loving hug to Delaney Hope).
Know that we are celebrating Sam’s birthday quietly, but with great joy that we are a healthy, whole, family today.
