Journal

For those of you who don’t want all the details, we are one year out from radioactive iodine treatment and Sam is doing great.  We don’t have another check up for 12 months.

If you like the technical stuff, here you go…

1. We started the day with bloodwork.  TSH is now perfect at 0.01.  Thyroglobulin is down to 0.14, Free T4 is normal at 1.68.

2. Ultrasound of the neck and CTs of the neck and chest were all clear.  The little lymph node that lit up from the RAI last year is a little smaller than before.

3. Doctor is super happy with everything. There is a little thyroglobulin in his blood (less than 6 months ago) which means some thyroid cells remain and you can’t rule out that some could be cancer cells.  The doctor says that the little bit of thyroglobulin left in Sam is likely thyroid cells that are sick from RAI and just haven’t died yet.  It can take longer for that to happen.  The drop in thyroglobulin shows that whatever thyroid cells are left are slowly dying out.

4.  I might have had a moment of stressful tears when the CT tech told me Sam was practically an adult and didn’t need me in the room during his test.  Jerkface! ;)

That is all for now.  We have a healthy young man who will be going to Texas State in the fall and we will put thyroid cancer out of our minds for 12 more months!!!!

Love to you all,
Melanie
