Journal entry by Karin Roberts —
Dear friends and family,
Just a quick update on Samantha. Monday afternoon Sam had her cranioplasty and everything went well with her surgery. She has a very large incision along her head and is in quite a bit of pain which they are trying to get under control. But she is recovering as well as the team had expected.
Several of her therapists from four months ago came by yesterday to wish her well and tell her how impressed they are with her recovery progress. Our favorite neurologist from the ICU, Dr. Gabe came by last night and told her that nothing can stop her from making improvements. He was so happy with how good she looked since October. I know Sam was very touched to see him again.
When Sam is discharged she will be going to inpatient rehabilitation for approximately 2 weeks. We are hoping to hear when the discharge will happen. The sooner the better as she is ready to get out of Barnes. We are also waiting to determine which facility has a bed available.
Several of you have signed up for the meal train in the next few days. We ask that you please wait with your generosity until Sam returns home. She would love to take a rain check on your meal for when she’s back home to enjoy it. We cannot thank you enough for all you have done and continue to do for Sam and Kyle.
It’s been a long four months but now that this surgery is over she can keep pushing forward.
Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
