Salene’s Story

Site created on July 26, 2023

We were ecstatic to welcome Salene "Sally" Newhouse to our family on July 16, 2023.

Unfortunately just four days later, Sally was admitted to INOVA Fairfax Children's Hospital with complications as a result of an infection from Enterovirus, which has since resulted in Sally being placed on life support as her body attempts to fight back against myocarditis and heart failure.

On Wednesday July 26, Sally was transferred to Children's National Hospital in Northeast DC, where her recovery process continues.

We ask for everyone's thoughts and prayers as Sally continues to fight, and we will be sure to provide as many updates as possible.

Thanks,
Tom & Lauren

Friends,
Sally would be 3 month's old today. In our time since her passing, Tom and I have been finding many ways to honor her fighting spirit and celebrate her short, but beautiful life. On Saturday, November 4 I will be walking the American Heart Association's Heart Walk in Sally's honor. If you'd like to make a donation or learn more about the AHA, please visit my page:

To our friends and family that have supported this effort with a donation- THANK YOU! I will be sure to share a picture or two from the event, which I will proudly wear purple in Sally's honor.

While donations are certainly helpful, I can't help but think of a better way to honor Sally than by giving blood. There is a nationwide blood shortage and the need to donate is extremely urgent. I had previously never donated, but after seeing just how much blood and blood products Sally needed I knew this would be the most impactful way to honor her life- by saving the lives of others. Please consider donating to your local hospital system or through the Red Cross. More information can be found here:

Yesterday marked two months since Sally's passing. She gifted us a gorgeous fall day, spotted with beautiful purple flowers everywhere we looked. Her peaceful spirit was everywhere.

In the coming months we will look to annualize a tradition in celebration of Sally. Please stay tuned for more.

All Our Love,
Lauren and Tom Newhouse
