Rylee’s Story

Site created on March 1, 2021

Rylee was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on her spine called neuroblastoma on 2/27/21.  Tony, Joanna, and Rylee just celebrated her 1st birthday on 2/11.  The next day Rylee had her one year check-up and received an examination and some booster vaccinations.  In the following two weeks she developed a skin rash and fever, which were likely from the vaccines.  But in the days leading up to her diagnosis Rylee became inconsolable, began having difficulty sleeping and especially staying asleep, and finally, she stopped bearing weight in her legs.  Joanna and I got her to her pediatrician and ultimately to Children's National in DC, where she has been diagnosed with cancer.  It  has felt like dream for both Joanna and I, but we are trying our best to trust the Lord, be still, know He is God, and hope in the promises of His word.  Rylee is so precious and has been in the best of spirits.  Her name means "valiant & courageous" so it is no surprise to us that she is keeping it together for the Peterson's!  We love you all so much and truly appreciate the continued support, prayers, and encouragement.  We are hopeful that God is building His testimony and making His appeal through the Peterson's.  We are taking everything a moment at a time and trusting that He is working all things together for good.  Thank you all so much for your love!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Rylee Peterson

Hi All,

We know it has been a while and I apologize for the delay in updating you all!

Rylee had her next rounds of MRI scans and follow ups in DC, which now officially marks 2 years since her last chemo treatment! We are so beyond grateful to share that the doctors have seen no changes in her tumor, which is what they are continuing to monitor.

This is again a HUGE praise and answer to continuous prayers as switching from scans every 3months to every 6months was a big step. We will continue with scans every 6mos for the next couple of years to continue with monitoring the tumor to make sure the tumor shows no growth.

We continue to PRAISE God for His mercy and grace as we continue to walk in this journey with our precious warrior girl!

We again cannot express enough how much we continue to be SO grateful to each one of you for all of your continued prayers, love, support, and encouragement! We know we would not be here today without it!!!

We would ask for continued prayers that the tumor shows no change and the cancer never returns.

Rylee continues to amaze and inspire us with her courageous and valiant spirit. We are blessed by her and she is a true gift. We treasure each day and love to see her continue to grow. She is now 3 years old and is into all things pink, sparkly, princess, Minnie Mouse , drawing, painting, cooking, bikes, parks, play doh, gymnastics, swimming, dancing, dress ups and loving her new role as big sister.

Baby brother, Asher William, was born on 9/1/22 and he is such a blessing. It has been such a joy to watch Rylee with him and she will often tell him “You’re my best friend”.

We love you all beyond words! ❤️
