Ryan’s Story

Site created on January 19, 2024

We are using caringbridge to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Ryan suffered a right cerebellum stroke on January 17th and was evaluated at Mercy Gilbert Hospital. he was then transferred to Chandler Regional stroke ICU at 10pm January 17. Neurosurgery said the next 72 hours were crucial; watching for brain swelling and cognitive decline. Unfortunately there was some cognitive decline thru the night and a new brain CT showed more swelling at which point it was recommended to releive the pressure by performing a craniumectomy (A craniectomy is a type of surgery to remove a portion of your skull. This helps relieve extra pressure on your brain) and place an external drain. they did have to remove part of the brain tissue the stroke damaged. They did find he had another stroke Left temperal lobe which was causing vision impairment. Ryan tolerated the surgery well. After a follow-up CT after surgery they discovers the new stroke had bleed. repeat CT today showed NO new stroke and NO new bleeding!

I've had a couple people ask about a charity or organization where people could make donations in Ryan's name in lieu of flowers.
