Busy day of appointments today. I'm home now and tucked into bed already by 6PM. Started the day with a surgical follow-up in urology. Everything looks good, is working as it should be and healing nicely. I was able to get my last stent/tube pulled and all 43 staples removed. I will return in 3 months to ensure kidney function is still good. Had a little break in the action so I took Mom for a "super fancy" early birthday lunch at Noodles & Co. LOL. Headed back to the hospital to meet with my radiation oncologist. His take on my most recent scans was a little different than my medical oncologist. He definitely wants to treat the spot in my lung with about 5 rounds of high-dose radiation. He also believes there is a good chance that the enlarged lymph node in the mediastinum (under my breast bone) is also potentially cancer. He is sending me for a PET scan to hopefully confirm one way or another. If it appears to be cancerous, he wants to treat that with 5-15 rounds of high-dose radiation. There are a few more potential risks with treating an area so close to my aorta with high-dose radiation again, but it sounds like that is really the only treatment option for disease in that area (other than simply trying to slow it down with systemic chemotherapy, but it would probably never get rid of it all). I go in about a week and a half for my mapping/planning CT, and then my PET scan two days later. I should have a more definitive treatment plan in a couple weeks, but for now, early-bird bed time! 💙
