Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Many of you know Ruth has been sick.  It turns out a little infection in June has turned into a bumpy journey lasting 6+ months.  To catch you up, here is a brief overview of the last 6 months.

Started in June with a kidney infection  that resulted in a couple different hospital stays to treat the pain/infection.  Over the next few months and ongoing back pain she was diagnosed with osteomyelitis (infection) of the spine.  Nine weeks of antibiotics and when they stopped for just a few days she was right back in the hospital for a recurrent infection.  So several weeks of a new antibiotic without improvement and it was time for something more aggressive to treat this infection.  Mid-November she had two surgeries (in 3 days) to clean out the infection and reconstruct the spine (the xrays are impressive).  Post surgery she went to Charter House for rehab.  Only 2 days later and she was back to the hospital for significant shortness of breath.  This time they found a chylle leak (extra fluid in the lung cavity as a result of the first surgery).  She now has a chest tube draining the extra fluid while we figure this part out.

And the journey continues....
