Ruth’s Story

Site created on February 7, 2024

To whom much is given, much is expected; to whom much more is given, much more is expected. This was Mother’s life mantra. After a courageous cancer journey, Mother — our matriarch — is under the care of Hospice and nearing the end of life. Since her diagnosis, Mother was intentional in making memories with her family and friends. This came in the form of tea parties, cousins camp, and trips to Egypt, Sedona, and Jekyll Island. She lived life to the fullest for as long as she could. Her family would like to use this site to share updates with loved ones, and to honor her during this sacred time. Thank you for your support and love, for enriching her life and ours.

Journal entry by Evelyn Galletti

We look forward to celebrating Mother with you next weekend on Saturday, May 4. Here are a few important details for your reference:

Service: The Celebration of Life will start promptly at 6:30pm CT inside The Parthenon (2500 West End Ave, Nashville, TN 37203) at Centennial Park at the base of the Athena statue. Local musicians will be playing Mother's favorite music beginning at 6:00pm as everyone gathers and finds a seat. We expect the service to run 30-45 minutes.

Logistics: The Tennessee Craft Fair will be underway at Centennial Park throughout the weekend, and we expect parking to be a challenge, so please plan to carpool, use Lyft/Uber, and/or park at one of the nearby hotels and walk into the Park and budget your time accordingly.

Attire & Children: Dress is business casual. We want this to be a celebratory occasion, so encourage wearing colorful attire in order to honor Mother. The high is 80 degrees on Saturday, so dress appropriately (think hats, fans, sandals, water). Children are welcome to join us -- Louis, Martha, Carson, and Bobby will be there!

Fellowship: Following the service, we will serve Girl Scout cookies to honor Mother's many years of serving on the board and champagne (with sparkling water also available) as we toast a life well lived. Mother's favorite music will continue as we mix and mingle.

Supper: We invite out-of-town guests and immediate family to join us for supper after the service at the condo of Fred and Beth Cate, which is walking distance from The Parthenon. The address is The West End Condos, 110 West End Avenue #702.

Louis, Martha, and I recently visited Centennial Park to walk the space and pay our respects to the tree that the Conservancy planted in her honor. See you in a week!
