Journal entry by Ruthie Dixon —
I have a few updates from the week. I had my follow up appointment at the breast cancer center. I went in and listed off all of my side effects I’ve been having. (I remembered to mention brain fog which I apparently forgot to put on the list in my last post haha). We decided to switch from Lexapro to Effexor as the Lexapro was basically useless and I gave it a few months and still nothing. I am on day 3 of the switch and so far just occasional headache.
We went over the oncotype score and decided we will move ahead with ovary removal. I got a referral for an ob to have a consult and have the surgery with. I got in with an ob in just a couple days surprisingly so I already had the consult and all set with surgery scheduled in June to remove both my ovaries and my tubes. I will be having an ultrasound done a couple weeks before surgery to make sure it doesn’t alter the plan. Hopefully they find nothing else to address. I’ll be out of work for a couple weeks and will be a bit down and out (and in total menopause lol) for a bit, but I know that’s the right path. I need to get a pre op scheduled still but I will get to that another week.
I also discussed the insane weight gain from the Tamoxifen. I got a referral for a medical weight loss program and have a couple appointments for that scheduled next month.
Lastly we discussed doing more imaging and the idea to alternate MRI and mammogram every 6 months. My hope is to do the MRI this summer. I have 2 appointments in June for this and to revisit with my medical oncologist to see overall how I’m doing.
So basically and to sum it up, I have like a million appointments coming up. Sounds fun right? Thank you for all the love and support. It’s been a rough few months, but I am hopeful we are headed in the right direction for all things.
Until next time…..
