Russell’s Story

Site created on December 19, 2022

On Thursday Dec 8th Russ Jorgenson was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. He had been experiencing fatigue for the past few months. Upon arrival, they found internal bleeding and were able to get that stopped. In the end, he was given 8 units of blood and placed on a ventilator until Monday the 12th. They confirmed that both his liver and kidneys were failing. Since the 12th, he has been alert and awake, but unfortunately the prognosis isn’t good. He has been surrounded by family everyday and has been getting texts and calls from people letting him know that he’s in their thoughts.
On Sunday Dec 18, Russ was moved to Pathways Hospice in Fort Collins, where he will be until the inevitable. His daughter and cousins continue to spend the days with him so he is not alone. He also has been enjoying visits from his favorite little black dog, Maggie.

Journal entry by Dion Dolva

Russell Wayne Jorgenson passed away this afternoon while under the care of hospice in Fort Collins, CO.  He fought until the end, but his failing organs proved to be too much. Last night he was surrounded by his daughter and  cousins who spent the night with him. As well as getting a call from his mom and snuggles with Maggie, the dog he dogsat for when The Dolvas we're out of town. He still was able to make sure that we shut the door when Maggie was in his room, she’s a bit of a runner and took Russ on a couple of chases over the past year. He was pretty talkative this morning considering, and the nurses even thought he would make it through the weekend. But this afternoon, he fell asleep and didn't wake up. He will be missed and the "Hawley Then and Now" Facebook page will feel a little emptier with out his posts. We will finish the Wayne Nelson video for him, he wanted me to bring his computer up so he could finish it while in the hospital.  Thank you all for supporting Russ from wherever you are. He could definitely feel the love.
RIP Russell.
