Newest Update

Journal entry by Alisha Laro

Treatment update! 6 months in.

The last update we provided on here was in April right before they switched up Ruby's medication. FYI that we have been using her Facebook page for updating family and friends, because everyone is on there, but not everyone is on here. So please check there for updates!

Earlier this month she had a chemo port in, to make treatment and hydration easier. Ruby said: "They played 80s music and were entertaining me during the procedure. Should've gotten it sooner!" It went really well.

The medication they switched Ruby to in May has been working great. She has been having far less side effects while on it, which we are so grateful for! 🙏

Until her treatment is over, she cannot have any visitors. Her immune system is compromised and any illness will jeopardize her entire treatment schedule.

If all continues to go as planned, she will be heading to UCSF for the final part of her treatment in September. But it is to be determined, as it has not been set in stone yet.

Ruby will spend 2-4 weeks at UCSF for treatment. Then she will have 4-6 weeks of rest and recovery, still no visitors allowed.

Then she will be ready to visit and boogie with you all. 🥳

HOW YOU CAN HELP

❤️1- Please continue to send letters, cards, flowers and photos to her home.

❤️2- Rather than gift cards, we have started a GoFundme page, so that we as her care team can apply the funds where most needed for Ruby. The link to this can be found through the WAYS TO HELP tab above this journal posting, or on Ruby's facebook page. https://gofund.me/ee3b64c5

❤️3- If you would like to make food to assist with meals, please reach out to May Vazques (her sister) so that she can advise you what she can/can’t eat. Because of her diabetes and cancer, Ruby is on a very strict diet.

Any and all support is appreciated to help get Ruby through these times.

When “i” is replaced by “we”… even “illness” becomes “wellness”

From Ruby:
“Miss and love you all so so much!!!”❤️
