Scott’s Story

Site created on February 10, 2019

Some quick background: On February 2, Scott suffered a massive heart attack. He was admitted to University Medical Center in El Paso, where he coded three times before doctors were able to stabilize him. They found that three of his heart vessels were almost completely blocked, and put him on a cocktail of blood pressure medications, an external pacemaker, and a ventilator. They also were able to insert a stent to partially open one of the blocked vessels and use an inter-aortic balloon pump to help increase blood flow from the heart.

Over the next few days, Scott's arrhythmia resolved itself and his doctors were able to remove the pacemaker. They were also able to wean him off one of the BP meds and lower the dosage of the other two. Unfortunately, they also determined that the damage to his heart required care beyond what could be provided in El Paso. On February 9, he was flown to Austin's Seton Medical Center, which has the capability to provide a more comprehensive range of treatments.

We'll use this site to keep Scott's many friends and colleagues updated about his condition, as well as make you aware of ways in which you can support him during this critical time. Please feel free to share the link with others, and thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and assistance!
