Journal entry by Rosy Smith

My Mama is a special jewel! She shines like none other! It has been a while since she has been to see her doctors at MD Anderson.
One by one, nurses and doctors came into the room just to see her. They said they were so excited when they saw her name on the schedule. Each one hugged her and told her how much they have missed her. They each told me was a treasure and what a bright light she was to each of them. What a blessing to see the difference she has made in people’s lives along this cancer journey. I’m sure many cancer patients are focused on their own journey. Not my Mama! She is still thinking of others! Each visit she makes she takes them snacks, goodies, cakes, cookies… but never empty handed. My Mama loves people well and I am so proud of her! 💛
The short summary of the past few days:
1- Mom’s tumor has grown and cancer progressed. They are mostly concerned with the possibility of it spreading into the colon and bladder.
2- The cancer in the lymph nodes has grown slightly but mostly stable with one new lymphnode affected.
3- All in all, the cancer has progressed so we are changing treatments. Dr. Beavers feels confident that Mom is a good fit for a newly approved drug that had a strong clinical trial. The plan is to begin this treatment as soon as possible and continue it every 21 days.
4- We came to Houston mainly because we were referred for radiation due to the heavy bleeding from Mom’s tumor. She received a high dose radiation treatment yesterday which targeted the tumor and surrounding area. The goal is to stop the bleeding and obviously shrink and kill cancer cells and the mass. I won’t go into all of the potential side effects and issues from the high dose radiation, but please be praying for her over the next few weeks. The radiation may be repeated in one month.
Once again, thank you for covering her in your prayers this week! We have felt them! So thankful for my Aunt Lynda driving us back and forth to MD Anderson every day and all of her hospitality. We will travel back to Arkansas tomorrow morning. 💛
