Ron’s Story

Site created on November 16, 2018

In the Spring of 2017, Ron was experiencing severe shoulder pain. It became so unbearable that he was barely able to move his entire arm. After a few doctor's visits, to our dismay Ron was diagnosed with Stage IV Renal Cell cancer more commonly known as kidney cancer. By the time Ron started treatment, the cancer had already metastasized from his kidney to his shoulder. Since his diagnosis, Ron has had his kidney removed, a complete reverse shoulder replacement, and undergone several types of treatments including immunotherapy, radiation and chemotherapy. The side effects from his treatment have taken a toll on him and have produced multiple pulmonary embolisms (blood clots) in his lungs. This has made it very difficult and challenging for Ron to breathe and do simple things we take for granted everyday. Currently, he is in respiratory failure, and while only God knows how much time he has left with us, his doctors feel it would be a miracle if he makes it to the new year. Ron has never wavered in strength, perseverance and positivity in his fight. He is still as comical as ever- laughing, telling jokes, making faces, and giving his caretakers a hard time in the most loving way possible. The amount of love, grace and kindness Ron, Joanne and Taylor have felt from loved ones and friends during this difficult time has been remarkable. We truly cannot thank all of you enough for your kind words, thoughts, prayers, visits and cards over the past two years. We feel immensely blessed to be surrounded by such caring and kind-hearted individuals. God has blessed us with this time as a family, and we will take advantage of every moment we have with each other. Thank you all for your unconditional support. We will continue to keep you updated on Ron's condition.
