Ron’s Story

Site created on May 19, 2022

Ron was having headaches with fatigue for two weeks. There were a few times during those two weeks that he was forgetting some things. He went to the doctor on Monday May 9th and labs were done and an MRI was scheduled to be done in 3 days. The next day, Tuesday May 10th Ron was moving slower, lost his balance once, and was having trouble with completing tasks. Shelly drove him to the ER in Bismarck and he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. We were devastated and in shock to have another family member go through this. He was air evacuated on May 13, 2022 to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Within hours he was in surgery.  The neurosurgeons think they got most of the tumor. The surgery went well. He spent one night in ICU and one day on the neuro floor.  He is so strong, he was able to walk the day after surgery and met the physical therapy requirements While he went on his walks on the neuro floor, he would stop at each door of the other patients rooms and if they were awake and/or sitting in their chair he would ask them how they were doing.  It was amazing, he had a connection and wanted to make sure they were doing good too. He was discharged 2 days after brain surgery. We took one day to rest before heading home. We spilt the drive into 2 days so it wouldn't be too hard on him. We arrived home on Wednesday May 18th and he is happy to be in his own environment and in his recliner. We are waiting for the pathology reports and then the doctors will make their plan. He has so many people praying for him, he is comforted by this.

People have been asking how they can help us financially. We have set up an online account with Venmo. It is under @rondemers and enter in the last 4 digits of Shelly's phone number 0121 when prompted.

We are humbled by your kindness and generosity. Thank you.

Ron had his appointments, tests, and treatment in Rochester last week.  His appointments, tests, and treatment all went well. The MRI is stable, thanks be to God.  We are home now until the next round of treatment in 6 weeks. Ron wasn't sure if he wanted to plant a garden this year but has decided a small garden is better than no garden.   Gardening is therapeutic and enjoyable for both of us and we look forward to the warm weather and being outdoors.  Thank you all for the continued prayers, we appreciate them so much.
