Roger’s Story

Site created on March 21, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Roger, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. During October thru December 2017, he experienced increasing abdominal symptoms and discomfort. A gallbladder removal was performed Nov 13th with some relief noted, but the following month, a surprising  10 lb weight loss was noted and discomfort had gradually returned. Further investigation continued, and a duodenal biopsy was performed that resulted in a positive diagnosis of pancreatic cancer on January 25th, 2018.

A whirlwind of appointments and decisions quickly occurred. We met with a wonderful Park Nicollet oncologist Melissa Sherman, as well as a team of oncology nurses and and support staff of the Frauenshuh Cancer center at Methodist Hospital. Roger received a port and the first chemo regime on February 5th. As of March 21st, Roger has received 4 courses of the chemo regimen consisting of a 4 drugs therapy every 14 days, plus 4 anti-nausea drugs. He has tolerated all very well with minimal and manageable side effects-the most challenging to date is neuropathy, primarily of hands and feet.

The new reports of PET scans have us now more positive and hopeful. A once doubtful chance of being resectable, has now changed to a chance of resection. We are now much more optimistic and hopeful.
Our faith is strong. We have felt an incredible amount of love and support from an amazingly huge circle of friends and family- who have extended their loving arms around us in many ways. We are so extremely grateful, and we know we are so blessed. Thank you.
