Roger’s Story

Site created on October 11, 2020

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." Lao Tzu

In recent days Roger Jr. has unexpectedly become critically ill. It turns out that cancer that has reared its ugliest of heads in an abrupt manner and with a grave prognosis. He is up for the battle to live and we are in the throes of helping him do just that.

Roger is determined to fight. Masha is holding strong for her beloved husband. And the rest of us are doing our best to be wind in their sails.

On paper, Roger Jr. is "half-brother" to some of us, but there is nothing ‘half’ about him to any of us. He is full love, full light, full joy, full optimism…full life. He betters our lives every day by simply being present in them. His thoughtfulness, compassion, grace, and ability to make people feel safe around him surpasses well beyond our ability to accept such love.

We are using this site to keep friends and family updated because it allows us to reach as many of you as possible in the most efficient manner since, as you might imagine, there are a lot of balls in the air and we want Roger and those close to him to be able to focus their energies on his well-being. We will update the "journal" tab entries as much as possible. Please feel free to use the "well wishes"  tab to post messages, photos, and videos here for Roger to see.  We greatly value all of your many forms of support - words of hope and encouragement, prayers and positive thoughts, personal connection, and professional resources.

Please send us any photos you have or create a video message to share- Wednesday 10/28 at bedtime is the extended deadline.

The viewing/ceremony and reception are all outdoors at a park and food being served will be individual boxes and bottles. We are doing what we can to make it as safe as possible within our limited control. FYI, for those coming from NY: I am told that the NY travel advisory hotline has said that if you travel for only 24 hours that you do not need to quarantine.

P.S.S. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider donating to Roger Jr.’s GoFundMe account. The uncovered medical bills are racking up and we’d like to reduce this unexpected burden from his wife, Masha. Thank you. (Campaign Title: Get Well Forever, Roger Jr.).
