Roger’s Story

Site created on January 24, 2022

I created this to keep everyone updated about Junior easier.  As some of you know Junior and I got covid mid Dec. He progressively got worse and on Dec 20 I brought him to the hospital. His oxygen was so low (51) he wouldn't have made it through the night had I not brought him to the hospital. From there he was transported by ambulance to St Mary's in Duluth. After weeks of being on bipap and slowly progressing his body just needed more help. On January 21 he was really struggling to breathe and couldn't get his oxygen up so he was placed on the ventilator. 2 days later we got a call that he might not make it and should come see him. I rushed up there. The Dr told us that he didn't think Junior was going to make it through getting flipped from his stomach to back because he had developed a bleed in his stomach. After we all got there they had us leave the room to roll him over. He did fine! Unfortunately when his nurse checked him a while later his right lung didn't sound right so she ordered an X-ray. His right lung collapsed. They put a chest tube in and his numbers went up to where they should be! I truly believe he knew we were there and heard me talking to him.  I called the hospital today and he's doing OK. Still critical but doing OK. They're easing up on his blood pressure meds because he's been able to keep that at a good and steady rate. They started his tube feedings again too. He's tolerating getting flipped from back to stomach and back. He received a bag of blood today because of possible stomach bleed and when he's laying on his stomach his nose bleeds from his blood thinners. He's still critical but I have faith he can and will beat this awful disease. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Brianna Kottschade

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. Junior is doing well and getting stronger. He used the walker maybe twice and hasn't even been using his cane much lately either. His breathing has been good, he just struggles when he gets up from laying down or when he lays down. He made it upstairs to the apartment to see our kitties as well. Other than that there isn't much else to report. Have a good weekend and much love!! ❤
