Roger’s Story

Site created on August 18, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Six weeks ago, Roger missed the last two steps and fell while injuring his knee. At therapy the following week, he stopped breathing and passed out and 911 was called. He was admitted to Missouri Baptist icu and remained there for 5 days.  He transferred to the cardiac care step down unit and was proceeding with therapy. Late one night, while sitting in the chair watching the Cardinals game, he went into cardiac arrest and was moved back to icu. He was making progress when a week later, he suffered a respiratory arrest. He had a breathing tube in for three days, but his kidneys suffered damage and he has been undergoing dialysis frequently to help remove excess fluid to give his heart relief from working so hard. Physical therapy is working with him again and helping him get stronger.  The kidney doctor is hopeful that the kidneys may regain function with time.  He’s in good spirits!  Loved watching the pga last week and hasn’t missed many Cards’ games on tv:).  We thank everybody for their kind words of encouragement and most importantly, your prayers.

Journal entry by Heidi Bucklew

It is with a heavy heart that we are posting today. Roger passed away peacefully in his sleep early this morning at Meramec Bluffs, where he had been staying. After a long winding road of ups and downs since last summer, it appears this is God’s plan for him now and he has reached the end of his long journey.  Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support over the last year. We expect a visitation on Monday at Concordia Lutheran in Kirkwood from 11-1 with a short service afterwards.
