Unfortunately we have not been able to get Rodney off the ventilator. Typically people remain on vents for 7-10 days. Rodney has been on for 14 days. Doctors now recommend a tracheostomy which would be a more permanent replacement for the ventilator and would require 24hr nursing in a nursing home since he isn't able to walk and participate in therapy. Along with the trach he would need a PEG tube which is for feedings. Besides the fact that Rodzey expressed not wanting any of this in his living will anyone who knows him can understand that a life without golf and his mobility would be a living hell. We want to protect his dignity and do only what he wanted and what is best regarding his quality of life. If we decide against this medical intervention our next step will be Hospice most likely tomorrow😔
