Rodney’s Story

Site created on February 23, 2023

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We did this years ago to help everyone keep up with Rose’s story. Now it’s Rodney’s turn.

The background: He suffered a stroke on the right side of his brain on Feb 13th. He’s in DM at the hospital right now getting the care he needs.

We are so very grateful for the family and friends who are keeping us going right now. It’s probably going to be a while between hospital and rehab. His eyes light up when he sees people who are familiar and subjects near and dear to his heart. Photography, tuba and grandkids are the big ones so far.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Tina White

Hello everybody!

I know it’s been a while since we updated on how Rodney is doing. He’s as incredible in rehab as he is behind a camera or computer.

He is working on standing without any help (though someone is always beside him to make sure he’s safe). Therapy has him doing all kinds of supported walking (using walker, using harness-ceiling support and even harness-ceiling treadmill). He is picking up his left foot and leg regularly. He has better and better control of his left “alien hand”.

He goes to an adult day hab program during the days when I am at work, since it isn’t possible for him to be alone for that long. I pick him up after school and take him to outpatient therapy at On With Life or just going home.

Rodney is able to go from sitting bedside to laying down after lifting his feet into bed. He is helping with dishes and laundry. Therapy is going to work with him on stovetop cooking.

His therapists are amazed at his progress even week-to-week. It’s especially encouraging when a doctor and a therapist weeks/months ago here have told us he wouldn’t see much more improvement. Of course he’s proving them wrong!! We all knew he would 🥰

The work he is doing is so difficult and exhausting. But his determination is unwavering
