Hi everyone. I just came home from about 2 weeks visiting my Dad and Bonnie in Carmel Valley. First of all, many thanks to the Wilson's for lending their wonderful home for Robin and Bonnie. It was so peaceful and warm to stay in such a wonderful place. 

I also want to thank my cousin Jennifer for spending one of those two weeks with me--she was enormously helpful to Dad, Bonnie and me. Also want to thank my brother Drew for taking me to our friend John's birthday, that was really fun. 

Dad has made so much progress since he was first in the ICU at CHOMP. No more trache, he can move around the house (from bed to wheelchair to kitchen/bathroom to the car to the back deck and get some sun on his face). He's eating solid food, he's starting to get some more action in his right arm, he enjoyed hearing me read him the news, and reading the Carmel Pine Cone newspaper. He's also starting to get more control over his verbal ability, with one word responses to questions.  

Some of the best moments were when eating dinner with Dad and Drew and everyone, and Drew and I would banter back and forth with jokes Dad taught us (not all of them suitable for print...). When we would make a couple of those jokes, Dad would bust up laughing. That was a really special moment for us all.

I especially want to thank Bonnie for her tireless commitment to Dad's health and recovery. She puts in more work than I could imagine in helping Dad. 

For anyone reading this who has friends living in the Monterey area, it would be great to get your advice on any not-so-obvious, not-on-the-market, potentially unadvertised, "it's more important who you know than what you know" connections for local living options. Preparing for when the Wilsons return to Carmel, it would be great to be able to network with anyone who has a mother-in-law space, or an apartment, or a furnished space that is ADA compliant, for consideration for longer-term living.
