Saturday, December 21, 2019 was a beautiful day. Rob and I woke up and had coffee and relaxed at home with our pets, Rebel the parrot and Mr. October the cat. Rob was coughing a little and seemed to be fighting off a cold so I gave him an Emergen-C drink and then I made him some hot tea and put a slug of Jim Beam in it with honey. He enjoyed that a lot and it made him feel better. I wrote two Christmas cards and then I went Christmas shopping and mailed them. I was gone from 1 pm until about 4 pm. When I cam home, I saw EVERY firetruck form the station two blocks away and animal control, at my building. The I saw the blackened, charred windows, my screen door leaning against the patio, water everywhere, firefighters and neighbors. They told me Rob was taken to UMC with burns on his legs. Our parrot suffered smoke inhalation and the firefighters revived him with oxygen. He got to stay at the veterinarian in oxygen overnight and the next day. He's recuperating at my mom's house. Our cat ran away but I've recovered him and he is fine.
I stayed with Rob that first night and they are taking the most EXCELLENT care of him at the Lions Burn Unit. I was very impressed and so, so thankful. Truly, I am so grateful everyone survived. This has been a nightmare.
