Robert’s Story

Site created on October 6, 2018

Robert (Bob) was involved in an car accident with another vehicle on Friday, September 21st  north of the family farm.  Bob was transported to Sleepy Eye hospital and then was air lifted to North Memorial due to breathing issues.  Upon arrival they needed to intubate and he aspirated into his lungs which further compromised his breathing.

Journal entry by Sarah McGuire

Bob moved to St. Gertrude's Transitional Care unit in Shakopee on Thursday, November 29. He has made much progress in his recovery.
At St. Gert's Bob has much more independence in both his cares and mobility.  He gets to wear clothing and can transfer from bed to wheelchair for the day and wheel himself around the center.  They have wonderful common areas to watch TV, work on puzzles, interact with other residents and can also have his meals out of the room.  It is a nice change from being stuck in your room.
Bob has a couple of appointments this week. Tomorrow will be a big day as he has an orthopedic appointment to see when he will be able to bear weight on his right ankle. He is gaining strength each day in PT. Today he practiced getting into and out of the car in preparation for his appointments. He also has been working on using a scooter to get around.
On Thursday, he has a ENT appointment to investigate why his tidal volume is weak, intake of oxygen and why his voice is weak.  Hopefully they will have some answers.

We are so gratefully for everyone's well wishes and prayers!
