Newest Update

Journal entry by Robert McAuliffe

Wow! Where do I begin? I am so grateful for all the wonderful thoughts, well wishes, cards, meals, photos, and get well gifts all of you, near and far, have sent our way over the last few months. It has been truly astounding and heartwarming to know you all are thinking of us in this difficult period. Sue, Alex, Emily, and Olivia kept me updated all along, and each Caring Bridge comment was an enormous lift in the midst of so, so many challenges. If there is a bronze lining to be found this summer, surely it is hearing from all of you. It is hard to put into words how much we (I) appreciate all the love and support from everyone, family and friends, that were so uplifting and so helpful in getting through the trials, obstacles, and tribulations that seemed to come from everywhere. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

My hospital stay is now seven weeks in the rearview mirror, and I can’t get away from it fast enough. It has been a huge relief to be home, leaving the pneumonias behind, breathing better, moving better, and even re-gaining some of the lost weight. I am on a good path now, feeling a little stronger every day.

Alex, Emily, and Olivia have been terrific. They all spent a lot of time at the hospital during my month stay, and how they managed to hold onto their jobs is beyond me. They have continued to bother us, I mean visit and help us out, at home.

Sue has been a saint, and I don’t know how I would have made it through without her. She did it all, from being a nurse, care manager, patient advocate, mother, wife, meal coordinator, and even an accountant. I am so very fortunate to have such a wonderful wife and terrific kids.

Once again, thank you for all your kindness. I look forward to seeing or talking with everyone in the months ahead.

Love

Rob

By the way, if anyone is looking for a Superman cape, please let me know.
