Robert’s Story

Site created on February 26, 2020

[This Caring Bridge site is a landing page for all of the family and friends who have expressed an interest in supporting Robert McAninch and his family as his cancer progresses.  We will provide prayer updates, meal support options and other news here.  The family also appreciates direct contact, although they will not always be able to respond in a timely manner.  Our goal is to make all the well wishes noted here into a lasting reminder of a life well-lived and remembered. A physical copy will be created for Shari, Isaac and Rachel. ]

Robert experienced issues related to health over the past year, but thought much of it was due to food intolerance.  After the Christmas holiday, he caught the flu which seemed to exacerbate his health condition.  On February 14 cancer was found in the colon, but we still hoped it was contained in that location.  Robert had a CT scan on February 18th and the next day, we were notified that the cancer had already metastasized to his liver and lungs. We met with his oncologist and after evaluating his options, we felt the chemo treatments would provide little gain, so Robert decided not to do them.

Hospice is already involved and has been an incredible blessing to us.  Only God knows how many weeks or months Robert has, but your support through this journey means the world to us.  Thank you for caring. - Shari.

If you would like to provide a meal for the family, please sign up here so we are able to help manage it. Additional information on food preferences is included on the Meal Train site.   Meal Train:  bit.ly/mcaninch

Journal entry by Shari McAninch

The year 2020, has been a challenging one. We have been blessed with the love of family, friends, and strangers. Robert went home to be with his Heavenly Father on May 3. We were able to have his visitation and service on July 18. Today, July 22, the kids and I had him buried at the Georgia National Cemetery with military honors. It is a beautiful place and a feeling of peace comes over you as you enter. This part of our journey is over and now the time has come to heal.

Before he passed he told the kids and I that we will be okay. Yes, we will! God continues to bless us each and everyday because of you! Robert will live in the heart of each and everyone he came in contact with. He was a wonderful husband and dad. He loved all his family, near and far. He loved God. He is now our guardian angel! I was blessed to call him husband for 32 years. He may not be with us physically, but he is with us in our hearts. Though the time we had was not long enough and not always perfect, it was our time! I cherish every memory. I know he is happy and healthy, and most importantly, I will see him again! I love you babe! Blessings for you all! - Shari 😊
