Bob’s Story

Site created on August 9, 2023

Hello everyone and thank you so much for caring so much about our amazing dad and Bappo. On August 9th, 2023 after about two weeks of really bad back pain and strange labs, Dad got diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. We immediately began treatment at Mayo in Phoenix. We are so thankful for everyone's love, concern, and support and have started this page as a way to centralize updates in real time so everyone is kept in the loop. Every morning we read Dad the new messages from this site and it brings him so much joy.

Journal entry by Sara Brooks

Day 26 and Dad is doing a great job hanging in there. His heart is cooperating, and as of now, there are no new infections. His counts still haven't budged, which isn't necessarily bad. On Wednesday, he gets the bone marrow biopsy, and those results will dictate everything.

This Friday, we are finally returning home to Tucson. Regardless of what the marrow shows, Dad wants to get back to his home and the mountains (and friends and family). And his body needs a break. We will be back later this week to share the news, which, God willing, shows he is in remission. Thank you to everyone for everything.
