Robert’s Story

Site created on July 7, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. Robert was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma on July 1st, 2021. We are so thankful for your love, support and prayers.

We are putting our hope and trust in our Abba who put the stars in place and knows us by name. My life verse, Ephesians 3:20 says, "God can do immeasurably more than all we ask, seek, hope or imagine." And we believe it! Join with us as we pray for complete healing of Robert's Lymphoma and are able to continue serving the Lord together in the days ahead. #believingGod #FaithOverFear #GodIsBiggerThanGoliath

We will be using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place and allow you a spot where you can write notes of encouragement as well as share scripture to encourage Robert on the journey.

We appreciate your love, support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Katrina Dorroh

When I was a child we went to the circus a few times. I remember being amazed at the performers. They seemed fearless! Have you ever considered the amount of faith needed to cross a high wire at the circus? I can't imagine stepping out on the wire knowing you are over twenty feet in the air! The performer who steps or cycles across the wire has to trust it will hold his/her weight. They have to trust in those who put the wire in its place as well.

Just as those hire wire performers had to have incredible trust, God wants us to dare to trust Him too! Our high wire is God's Word.  We have to lean in and believe God will do what He says He will do. We have to remember how He has worked in the past in our lives and throughout Biblical history and know He can do it again.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path!"

I think so often we lean on our own understanding.  It's easy to say we trust the Lord with all our heart until we are in the midst of a difficult situation. In those moments, God is asking us, "Do you trust Me?"  "Do you believe I can handle what you are going through?"

George Muller is one of my favorite mentors of faith. He lived in the 1800's. He dared to trust God and often found himself on the hire wire of faith!  He knew God would fulfill His promises made in His Word. God did incredible things through His life! He stated, “Faith does not operate in the realm of the possible. There is no glory for God in that which is humanly possible. Faith begins where man's power ends.”

Let's dare to trust God together  this week and see what He will do in the midst of our circumstances of life. Some of us may be going through struggles at work, in relationships or with our children. Remember, God's got you! Lean in!

As we continue to lean in I have a few updates for you...

Update on Robert:

The past few month without chemo have been such a blessing. Robert has felt better. His hair has come back in and his mouth sores are completely gone! Huge Praise! He was able to attend Centrikid Camp this year, which was such a blessing to the boys (and to me). He is also back teaching the 5th/6th grade boys on Sunday mornings. He is such an amazing teacher!

He is still struggling with some issues related to his heart we need to get checked out in the upcoming months. (The chemo went through his heart first and then to the rest of his body.) The right side of his heart is enlarged which also impacts his lung capacity. He still gets worn out much more quickly than before chemo. He is also struggling with neuropathy in his feet.

One concern we had was the itching had returned which had been an initial sign he had lymphoma. (This went undiagnosed, however, for months over a year ago before he was diagnosed.) He has been able manage it with some allergy medication. We are prayerful he is having a reaction to a seasonal allergy.

Robert's blood work last month looked good, so that was also a praise!

Tomorrow (9/16) Robert goes for his next PET scan and we will meet with the oncologist on 9/20. We will most likely have the results before we meet with oncologist. So, this weekend we would appreciate your prayers as we wait on the results and interpretation. This is our hire wire moment!  God's got this! He says so in His Word! (Ephesians 3:20)

Update on the Kids

Please continue to pray for Caleb. He stayed home this semester so we could further manage his anxiety. He has gotten much better regarding school, home, daily activities, our big ask is for God to take away His fear of driving outside a twenty mile range from the house. We need our prayer warriors on this one.

He is doing great though! He is working at Ben & Jerry's, subbing at the elementary school, keeping up his lawn mowing business and interning at a local church as well as keeping up with his Mitchell Community College schedule. He has an incredible drive and work ethic as well as a love of ministry.

Kaitlyn is doing so much better with her sleep! I am incredibly thankful! She has a very full load at school this year. (They have a 7 period schedule.) She is taking mostly AP level classes and one community college class. She is also doing events for her recently published book, Adam's Cape: The Missing Crewwhich is available on Amazon. Proceeds from the book are going to support Adam's Cape Medical Fund, Non-Profit. She has already won awards with The New York Book Festival and Hollywood Book Festival. We are praising God for this opportunity and thankful Kaitlyn can be a light in the world of Children's Books since we have discovered what a dark place it is becoming when we went to the American Library Association Conference.

Additional Prayer Requests:

I would love for you to pray for my health and recovery. This past year I have really struggled with my thyroid issues and it has impacted me in several ways. I am in the process of getting back a hold of my health as thing begin to settle into more of a routine.

Thank you for continuing on this journey with us! We are so blessed to have such amazing friends and family! Your expressions of love and support and reminders God is with us!

We love you all!
