Bigger Fish to Fry

So the time has come to move my Dad back to Valdosta Georgia this weekend.  It has been great having Mary and Dad live with us the past few months, but now it is time to get them home.  We hired a caregiver for 10 hours a day and Pruitt Hospice is going to be caring for him as well.  We made sure the house was set up with equipment, groceries and a lawn service to care for their yard.

This week before we moved from Mobile, we got a gift of deep sea fishing from Covenant Care’s foundation.  We were able to take a trip out to sea on a boat called the Entertainer and catch fish.  As a family we caught 40!   Such fun we had!   Dad was worry free and grinning ear to ear as he caught 9 fish!   These memories are priceless.

But now moving back to the home he hasn’t seen since November—he has bigger fish to fry.

I will miss hearing stories about his childhood like when he set his mother’s couch on fire with his sister in the driveway or in college when he belonged to a fraternity or stories of family members I am hardly old enough to remember.

Through all of the laughs and honest conversations  it is obvious that my Dad is a really kind hearted man.  Both of these sweet people deserve to have some time in their own home living the life they want.

I know that we are blessed that Dad is alive and we get to make new memories.  God is do good.  He gets to see his first great-grandchild born in September and forge new relationships with his grandchildren.  When life reminds you that it is fleeting you start to focus on what is truly important.

We will visit on weekends monthly to check on them.  Mary made me promise to bring Jack and Jill our two boxers with.  Thanks to everyone who has been on this journey with us.  Thanks for prayers and kind thoughts.  You are all part of our family.  ❤️❤️
