Journal

Thursday was our day to get the true numbers for Rob’s blood levels. Rob, Jaron, and I met with Dr McGirk today regarding his bone marrow biopsy and other lab tests. The results were not what we were hoping for.  He still has 4% of his own cells that are fighting the donors cells. We really were hoping the donor cells would have been 100%, but they’re not and that’s very concerning. The meds are being changed, decreased and tapered off so we’re hoping for the best.  By stopping the steroids and tapering off the tac, doctor believes the donor cells will take over, which is what we want, but we also have to be watchful of the GVHD returning because he has no meds keeping it at bay. It’s all so precarious. Dr McGirk is very concerned about Rob’s work. He doesn’t want him to work for at least another few months, because one of the most common and deadly issues for bone marrow transplant patients is fungicide from dirt or mud. And of course Rob’s business (trenching in the dirt/mud) is one of the worst possible jobs you could have. But Rob is so stubborn, but he is at least wearing a respirator. Again, thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. We just keep fighting the fight.
