Bob’s Story

Site created on May 29, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Dad is very blessed to have his wife Verna by his side.  She is his rock and it is humbling to watch them hold hands and face this enemy together. Much love and respect for them. She will be needing help transporting dad to his daily treatments once the radiation therapy begins. She may need help with mowing the eight acres of land from time to time. Please check back on this site from time to time for updates or task requests. Most importantly, words of encouragement and support will be welcomed. Dad loves visits and phone calls but he does tire easily. He has his sense of humor no matter how tired he gets. He teased us that he would get a game of dominoes going at chemo.

Dad has small cell  lung cancer, stage four, that has metastasized to lymph nodes and pelvic bone. Treatments are to help reduce the pain. The background to how this snuck up on us is that He had a knee replacement last Thanksgiving. About the same time, he and Verna went on a diet due to Verna’s diabetes. He started losing weight and lost almost twice as much as Verna. We all know it is easier for men to lose weight on these low carb diets. But he kept losing weight and the pain in his leg worsened.

The plan is weekly chemo with a week off for assessment every third week. Once the physicist and doctor’s agree on locations in his lung and pelvic areas, the radiation treatments will begin. Pray for a miracle of healing and easing of pain.  God Bless!

Journal entry by Dawn Roberson-Dobbs

Dad has been in the ICU since Monday night with pneumonia. He still has the chills sometimes but seems to be better. Our concern now is encouraging him to eat. He likes most fruit. Please continue to pray for comfort and healing.
