LAST CHEMO! 👌

I am sitting here now with RJ for his last chemotherapy infusion.  I first want to apologize for not updating after his last one.  Life got away from me and I spaced it out.  The last treatment went well, numbers looked good, but side affects were the worst that they had ever been.  RJ's words after he started feeling better were "that one really kicked my ass". 😢

Fast forward to today....

We met with the oncologist and he told us that his PSA level is down to 6!  If you remember, he started at 1500, a normal high is 4.  We are almost there!  Then the Dr said how well RJ has done through treatment, especially with the dosage strength that they are giving him. This is a super high dose for his super aggressive, late stage cancer. Doc said almost no one makes it through to treatment #6
(the treatment # he is on now).  They almost always can't take it and ask to stop.  Most don't make it through #3.  RJ is definitely strong and determined to stick around as long as possible!  Thank God!!

He has really slowed down and I was concerned about the amount of naps and sleeping he has been doing and the doctor assured me that was normal and he could return to his old self a few months after treatments have stopped.

So, RJ gets a few weeks off of treatments and doctors appointments. He does have to come back here, in about 4 week, to City of Hope (Chicago area) for a 2 day stay to get a MRI and PET scan to see exactly what this treatment series has done to his cancer.  He will most likely have to do centralized radiation of his prostate after that.  The radiation should prevent a whole slew of other problems down the line as well as lower his PSA even more.

Next weekend, June 22nd, is his benefit that our friends have worked their butts of putting together for him.  We will never be able to show our full appreciation for this.  We hope all of you can join us to celebrate so much progress.  We know we still have a long road ahead of us, but we get to enjoy these victories with all of you!

Please keep the prayers and positive vibes coming.  To our friends and family that have been there for us through every step of this, I want to extend a big thank you.  You have helped us in so many ways through this very scary ordeal.  We have really learned a lot about ourselves and who we can depend on through this and I don't think either of us would have made it without your support.

Hugs and kisses, see you next weekend!😊

Please enjoy this adorable picture of RJ and our newest grand-daughter! 💕
