Ride along with us on Riley's medical journey! On 2-4-21 Riley had a seizure for the first time in her life at the age of 17. Riley has been prescribed lots of anti-epileptic meds(none helped slow or stop the seizures, they only made her worse), has seen multiple neurologist, 1 Head CT, 1 Brain MRI, and 4 EEGs/vEEGs, psychological therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Psychical Therapy. So far no treatment has shown to be effective for her. She has been diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder. Ride with us on this journey while we climb this medical mountain in order to provide a less restrictive future for our fighter that's full of hopes and dreams!!! Some days can be more tough than others and we need your positive vibes and words to help assist push us up this mountain on the hard days. We Love and Appreciate Everyone!!!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Ashley Baer

Good Afternoon!   Time for an update on Riley's Health Adventures.    She completed the vestibular testing and was found to have no vestibular issues.  We are continuing the med prescribed by the Balance MD doctor because it does seem to be helping her migraines and assisting with her sleep issues slightly.  So at this point we will keep anything on board that seems to be helping even if it is minimal.  We did discontinue one of her meds on our own devices because it didn't appear to be doing anything for her besides aggressive weight gain.

Riley has basically been ill since the last week of September (she felt ok for only 2 weeks during this time span).   She has had sinus infection, URI, covid, and ear infection.  Some of these she has had multiple times in this time period.   I am hoping and praying that these illnesses are due to the low iron levels and not having enough hemoglobin in her body to properly fight off any contaminants she's exposed to.   After fighting for many months we have finally gotten the iron infusions approved.  She will have 3 (4 hour) infusions over the course of the next week.  More than likely she will feel bad/ill from these but after she gets used to the proper amount of iron in her body, I am praying and hoping things take a positive turn for her.  Her seizures/episodes have increased as well due to illness, poor nutrition (from being ill), and sleep disturbances(due to being ill) as well as maybe a little stress from trying to keep up with her academics while not feeling good.

She is also scheduled with an ENT at the end of December to see if she can have her tonsils and adenoids removed.  She has had several throat infections the past few months and I feel at this point the tonsils are just harboring bacteria and compounding some of her issues.  So praying we can get that accomplished as well.  Once we get through the infusions and see what the ENT has to say, we will next move on to find a neurologist that will hopefully assist in finding a treatment or medication that will keep her migraines at bay.  I'd like to think after all this is accomplished Riley can start actually living her life the same as others her age.  All we can do is hope and pray the avenues and choices we are making are going to be the right ones to get her on her life path and not the path her medical condition has currently chosen for her.   I believe that is it for now.   And as always we sincerely appreciate your love and care for Riley.  Please keep praying with us and hopefully soon this will all be a distant memory.   May 2023 be the year for Riley!!! ❤🩷🩵💜
