Riley’s Story

Site created on May 28, 2023

Riley became sick with what we thought was just some sort of infection on May 11,2023. We took her to the urgent care because she had a 102 degree fever. They sent us home on an antibiotic. By Saturday May 13th she developed a cough. Sunday May 14th she was not getting any better and spiked a 103 degree fever. My husband took her into a different urgent care and they sent us to the ER to get a chest X-ray done for possible pneumonia. 8hrs in the ER , they took some blood cultures and other lab work. The ER doctor came in and said they were transferring her to Children’s Hospital in Atlanta. He said her blood work was not good. Said she could have a couple different things and had mentioned Leukemia. Riley was transferred to CHOA and admitted. My husband stayed with her and called me at 3:30am and said the doctor was waiting on a test to come back but, was confident she had Leukemia. The final test came back later that day and confirmed Riley has Leukemia - AML. Our world came crashing down that day… Our sweet girl has cancer. That is something we never thought we would hear.
