Journal entry by Sean Kelly

Afternoon everyone,

It’s been a long couple of days. Riley is doing well, but is still pretty sore and uncomfortable after her surgery Thursday. The surgery all went very smoothly and Riley, like everything else, pulled through just fine. She is so strong, and such a fighter. This little girl amazes me on a daily basis, as I always say, and it is just incredible where she is today. I can’t think of another person who could fight through everything she fought through as well as she did. She REALLY does give me so much inspiration EVERY single day, and I’m beyond PROUD of her. Trust me when I say, she knows that! I think she is irritated by how much I tell her that! Sorry baby girl, it isn’t going to stop any time soon! I LOVE YOU! So, the surgery went really well as I said. We had to get up really early Thursday morning to get to the hospital on time, as I said in my last post. Once we got to the hospital, we got checked in a brought up to her prep room, where we got her dressed in her hospital gown and ready for surgery. The nurse was great, and asked what flavor Ry Ry would like to smell when she took her nap. One of the choices was strawberry, and that is the choice Riley made without thinking twice about it. She was so brave. I was a nervous wreck, but Riley was ready to go! She is so much stronger than I am! The anesthesiologist came in to fill us in on what was going to happen when they put her under and then shortly after they came back to take her down for the surgery. I explained in my last post, this surgery was going to be removing the g-tube she has had for the last six months, and that it would require closing up the hole from the tube from the inside out, starting from her stomach and all the way out to her outer tissue. I was so glad to have this procedure done, but it made me extremely nervous and anxious, obviously. The surgery took about an hour and a half and then the surgeon came in afterwards to let me know that things had gone well and she was waking up in recovery. SUCH a RELIEF! After about a half hour, they brought me down to her recovery room. She was doing great! As soon as she saw me, she asked me if she could have the popsicle I promised her she would be able to have after her surgery, which was great because one of the big focuses was making sure Ry Ry was able to drink fluids and eat foods before they would let us go home. We had to stay for observation for six hours before this could happen. If all was going well, they would let us go home, and if not they would keep us overnight. Everything went well, and we were able to go home that night. I think Riley literally ate 5 or 6 popsicles in those six hours and ate some crackers and gold fish in that time as well. She was definitely uncomfortable, and still is. She is getting better every day and before I know it, she will be running around and climbing all over the playground like she was before. NOTHING will hold this little girl down, and it’s incredible. Thank you everyone who reached out to me and prayed for Riley to have a successful surgery. Yet again, the prayers did their thing and my baby is doing just fine. I love you all and can’t thank you enough! I’m so glad the worst of this is coming to an end and can’t thank you all enough for the love and support you have provided to me and to Riley! It means so much! We love you all! Until the next one.

So much love,

Sean
