Newest Update

Journal entry by Zach Scherer

Mamma and Riley are hanging in there. We just found out yesterday that Abi is having some elevated blood pressure indicating preeclampsia. With the preeclampsia, extreme discomfort, and fluid build up most of the Doctors and nurses are shocked that she has made it this far without going into labor. For those reasons, they are planning to induce this Monday. She will be 37 weeks on Monday. We are still hoping for a natural delivery but it very well could be a c-section. Either way we are really glad to have a plan now. They haven’t seen the stomach much at all since our last update so Riley most likely has esophageal atresia and will need surgery at some point to repair the esophagus. A feeding tube may need to be surgically placed as well depending on the severity. We are so thankful for all the care we have gotten, and are still really excited to meet Riley. God has been good to us through it all. It is a great comfort to keep our eyes fixed above and not what is going on around us all the time. Please specifically pray for Abi’s blood pressure to come down, for an uncomplicated delivery and recovery, and for Riley’s lungs to be fully developed. Thank you all for all the support! - The Scherer’s
