In January 2018, Ricky was hospitalized with bleeding ulcers that led to a variety of other issues. He was diagnosed with liver disease and has been able to mostly manage it for the past few years with a few additional hospital stays. Those of you that were at Libby's wedding in September may have noticed how jaundiced Ricky appeared, which led to a bunch of tests and appointments. In December we found out that his liver disease is now end-stage and he is in need of a liver transplant. He completed his transplant evaluation 2/2/22 and is now waiting for "the call". The transplant team has told us that the call will likely come in "days to weeks", so we are trying to be as ready as we can for this life-changing surgery!

Ricky's transplant surgery will take place at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Liver transplant patients are hospitalized for an average of 10 days, though Ricky is much younger than the average recipient and thankfully has no other health conditions at this time. He will need an additional 2-3 months at home to recover before he can return to work and normal life, and he will be on immunosuppressants for the rest of his life. We will do our best to keep this page updated so you can know the latest news on Ricky. We are so grateful for your friendship, prayers, and support and we would not be able to make it through these difficult days without you or without our faith in the God that sees us, knows us, loves us, and makes all things new.

Journal entry by Angie MacDonald

Ricky is just about 2 months post-op and is doing great! Recovery hasn’t been easy but he hasn’t had any complications and we’re so grateful! His incision is just about fully healed and his medications and appointments have dialed down a bit. It will still probably be a little while longer before Ricky is able to work but if you know him you know he has lots of projects keeping him busy! Praying for love, hope, and joy for you and your loved ones this holiday season! Thank you for your love and support, we are eternally grateful!
