Journal

Here is a run down from March 5th to today:

3/5: Took a culture of Rick's wound because it was looking infected and changed up his meds a bit. He was feeling a bit nauseas and was vomiting, so had to slow down his trickle feeding.

3/6: Was on 9 liters on oxygen and having some decreased lung sounds. His white blood cell count was 14.7. His peg tube incision was looking better. Looking at doing a swallow evaluation soon.

3/7: Mentioned this in a quick update on the 7th, but they capped his trach and were hoping to remove it. Was having low blood levels.

3/8: Rick did get his trach out!!! He also did a swallow test. He was able to have clear fluids and jell-o. I asked him if it was the best jell-o he's ever had, and he said it tasted like little kid food. I asked him if he enjoyed it, and he said, "Was I supposed to?" I reminded him he hasn't eaten anything in months! :) --Sounds like Rick's blood sugar has been in the 130's so hasn't had to have insulin. He was still receiving TPN and tube feedings. His white blood cell count was up a bit to 15.1. His hemoglobin was at 7.6 and he hematocrit as at 24.3. His creatinine was at 4.21.

3/9: --

3/10: Rick did move facilities today!!! It's an extension of the hospital he was staying at. He got a COVID test today before moving and all was good. He is no longer receiving TPN, but is getting 65 cc's an hour through his feeding tube. He can eat little bits through his mouth but was not feeling too hungry today. Currently he is only receiving 1 liter of oxygen at night.

Things are moving in the right direction for sure and we are so proud of all the progress he has made. Please continue to pray for progress: healing in his body, continued strength - especially with PT and OT, and in general, just continuing to move forward. THANK YOU all for your continued support and love. We are grateful for all of you.
