Journal entry by Lisa Laws —
One month ago today Rick was admitted into hospice care. We noticed he'd been declining mentally, physically and verbally, so I asked to have his next MRI moved up a few weeks. However, before that happened, he had a seizure on the night of Sept. 18th. He went to the ED at Norton Brownsboro Hosp for about 20 hours and while there he had an MRI. It was then they informed us that the tumor was growing and there was nothing else they can do to fight his cancer. Rick has had a variety of treatments from his craniotomy to radiation, chemo, clinical trial, Optune cap, more radiation and the Avastin infusion during the past 20 months.
We are now taking it one day at a time and enjoying each day as much as we can.
"Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters."
In the past month and beyond, we've had so much love and support from our family and friends which has been so comforting. The prayers, calls, texts, cards, hugs, meals, gift cards, grocery runs, flowers, care packages, etc, have been wonderful, but a bit overwhelming. We feel the love and have been blessed. You have been the light in our darkness.
As we continue down this road, please pray for our strength, comfort and peace so that we can enjoy each day with Rick. And prayers for my brother, John Widau, who is also in hospice care.
Love to all~ Lisa, Olivia, Spencer, Erika & Luke
