Journal entry by Katie Keepman —
My dad is nearing the end of his beautiful life, or his sunset as we like to call it. We will be blessed to have him with us for a couple more weeks (hospice guess).
He is comfortable and even tried to open his eyes a little today. When I told him I love him he tried to mutter “love you too babes” and he even tried to wink! It was the best. ❤️
He is not interested in eating or drinking, but we did get a couple bites of ice cream in him today. My mom prayed the Rosary with him and we tucked him in with his new blanket. It was supposed to be his Christmas gift from my children, but today is as good a day as any. He didn’t open his eyes to see it, but I think he looks pretty cozy.
Last night, we planned his funeral services. We hope he would be proud of our selections. This is all very surreal, even thought it’s been a nearly 7 year battle.
We hope and pray he feels our love and knows what a blessing he has been to all of us. He is the true definition of unconditional love, and I hope he knows how special he is to us as leaves this world. He has given me a beautiful life, and I couldn’t ask for a better father and Buppa for my kids.
If you feel you need one more visit, please feel free. Just let me know and I can arrange it. If there’s anything you’d like me to tell him for you, send me a note and I’m happy to pass it along. Please pray for my mom, as her heart is broken, and pray for dad’s comfort and peace. ❤️
