Thank you to all of the friends and family who have reached out and shared your love of Richard Yules. He was laid to rest with military honors on Friday April 5th.  We have attached his official obituary but you all know it barely scratches the surface of all the accomplishments our amazing husband, father, grandfather, friend, and hero achieved. 

GENERAL RICHARD BROWN YULES, M.D. OBITUARY

 

 

Richard Brown Yules, 78 years old, beloved husband of Lila Lilien Yules passed away with his family by his side on April 2, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lila, of North Attleborough, MA his son Atty. Branch R Yules and his wife, Tina, of Ashland, MA and daughters Dr. Dawn Johnson of Potomac, MD; and Dr. Brooke James and her husband, Christopher, of Franktown, CO. He also leaves eight beautiful grandchildren, Dr. Yules was born in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Herman and Lillian Yules.

 

A graduate of Yale University and Yale medical school, Richard attended Harvard, and Stanford Universities for his medical residencies.  While raising his family in Paxton, MA, Dr. Yules was a surgeon, founder and Managing Director of Haelen Medical Center and Chairman of the Worcester City Hospital’s EENT department.  He served as an FAA Class 1 Medical Aviation Examiner and Senior Crash Investigator for 24 years.  Dr. Yules proudly served for over 33 years in the National Guard, acting as MA state air surgeon and achieving the rank of Brigadier General while serving during the Gulf war. He retired after receiving the Distinguished Service Medal, a distinction second only to the Medal of Honor.

 

Richard was an avid learner and educator.  He published over 50 manuscripts and wrote 4 books.  In addition, he was an expert marksman, earning the Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. He served as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 105. He was an accomplished tennis player and amateur guitarist who loved to write songs for family events, such as bar mitzvahs and weddings.   He was an active participant in whatever community he joined serving on many committees and most recently functioning on the Board of Governors of Florida Atlantic University Foundation.

In his recent years, Dr. Yules resided in Boca Raton, FL and spent summers in Mashpee, MA.  Richard was above all a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, following his creed of “family first”.  

 

Graveside funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 11 AM at Temple Bnai Israel Cemetery 227 Stafford Rd.; Mansfield Connecticut 06250
