Richard’s Story

Site created on May 21, 2020

As most of you know, dad was hurt while cutting trees. Do to his injuries, he will likely need care 24 hrs a day.

We are asking for help in having someone at his home 24 hrs a day for a period of time. We are in hopes that a rotation can be worked out among family and friends to spend one 24 hr shift w him every couple of weeks. Shifts will begin at 9 a.m. each morning and end at 9 a.m. when the next volunteer arrives.

The care he will need is minimal, as he can feed himself, use the restroom on his own and speak to tell you what he needs/wants. What he will need help with is remembering to take the correct meds at the right time, cooking/cleaning up for him, helping him walk, laundry and helping get in and out of bed. Dad is a busy body, so he will want to be outside quite a bit, however, he will be very limited to what he can do. Dad loves to visit and talk with people (sometimes into the middle of the night as many of you know), so be prepared to converse...lol...

If you would like to help, please visit the planner tab and select "accept" on the days you believe you can help. If something changes and you can no longer be there, you can go into the day you signed up for and select the arrow next to "accepted" and choose "drop the event"...

Dads anticipated arrival home from rehab is May 27. 24 hour care will start at that time.

One note for those assisting... Dad needs his blood pressure checked periodically... Please ensure that he has sat down and rested for 15 min or so, uncrosses his legs, stops talking and sits still while taking BP. His new BP cuff is very sensitive and his BP does raise with very little movement.
