Journal entry by Chelsea Derkacz —
After a lovely three week break from doctors visits Rhys had a busy day Friday starting with a visit to CHOP for a second opinion. Rhys continues to be a super star and was cooperative and happy with all of his testing. As the third baby I think he enjoys the one on one time with mom and all the attention from the nurses and doctors he gets at his appointments. He had another echo which showed the pressure through his aortic valve to be at 20, slightly increased from his last visit but overall stable and considered in the mild range. The cardiologist was in agreement with the plan to continue to monitor with echos and wait to intervene until the pressure was on the 40-50 range, BUT she said that might not happen for “decades”. We were initially told months would be our best case scenario so to hear decades was even a possibility was better news than we could have imagined. While there is no crystal ball and it’s hard to predict how his valve will respond as he grows we will take all the positive news we can. We followed up that appointment with our regular cardiology appointment at Nemours where all was well. We will continue to follow every 1-2 months with echos and if Rhys continues to be stable will stretch those visits out longer.
For now we will continue to enjoy our happy guy who is growing and gaining more personality by the day. We couldn’t be happier with his progress ❤️
